Cyclist Rejoice! It is a Happy Day at Loughbreeze B&B each Spring, when our Cycling Hostel Re-opens.  Yes, Ontario Cycling Hostel reopened April 15.  Perfectly located on Ontario’s Great Waterfront Trail, The Apple Route and minutes from Presqu’ile Provincial Park we are secluded privacy in the middle of everything.  For the past several weeks signs of Spring have appeared everywhere.   Robins are flying around picking up seeds dried grass and straw in the yard as they prepare their nest.   The lake is clearing, projecting a beautiful blue.   Buds are appearing on all the trees, especially we notice the Black Pussy Willows, and you can feel change in the air.   Mind you we like many others had a real old fashion winter this year.  I heard it from many of the old timers who spent lots of time, especially on those snow days, reminiscing about winter’s past.   But spring is in the air, clear and crisp and with spring we re-open our ever popular European style Hostel for Cyclist, Back  Packers and small groups of Fellow Travellers. Beautifully located on Lake Ontario our “Shangri La” Hostel delivers the most delightful options of a dip in the lake, a private lake side deck with BBQ, coffee maker, fridge, toaster oven, secure cycle storage, first aid kit, many cycling tools plus custom great sleeping bunks.  And beside all that we are located on The Apple Route (www.appleroute.ca), and The Great Waterfront Trail where the Great Waterfront Adventure Trail, July 2 through 9th (www.waterfronttrail.org) travels from Niagara Falls, Ontario to the Quebec Border a glorious 8 day 720 km ride. 2011 celebrates the 4th Annual ride and we anticipate approximately 300 riders, including many riders from previous years will join a lot of first timers in one of Canada’s incredible bonding experiences.   Last year we worked with The Great Waterfront Trail Adventure and this year we will be front and centre on Day 4/5.   As well, this year at Loughbreeze B&B we are incorporating lots of up grades and enhancements.  Our Labyrinth, constructed of local stones and wood, is quickly taking shape and being amalgamated into our Lake Front Mother Nature Wedding Amphitheatre.  As you might have known we are natural environmentalist.   Stop in to visit you will love our lake front accommodations, BBQ, coffee maker, full size fridge and private deck. You can follow all the news and events as they happen at the museum by visiting the web site; (www.airforcemuseum.ca) The museum is a glorious combination of Canadian Air Force planes, aeronautical paraphernalia, art work and history plus an extensive indoor/outdoor display of aircraft perfectly displayed.  Be sure to visit the gift shop where you may engage the dedicated & knowledgeable volunteers for information on all exhibits and museum programs.

As well, you can get updates on overseas activities conducted from the base. Most latterly the CC-177 Globemaster assisted in moving civilians out of Libya during the conflict there. At an extraordinary Brighton Computer Club session,  (www.brightoncomputerclub.org)   just this morning we met Dan Buchanan genealogist.   According to Dan, (treesbydan.com)  knowing your relatives may prove to be less than flattering especially when you find out there are a few odd balls in nearly every family tree.   Dan Buchanan is a specialist in family history in the Brighton and eastern Northumberland County Areas located in Ontario. Mom and Valentino

Famous neighbours around Loughbreeze B&B are always welcomed.  Among our notable neighbours we  have a beautiful new Hanovarian colt, born on Valentine’s day.  Last week we had chance to visit him.  Imagine our thrill and excitement as the mare came out of the barn, followed by  her colt, “Rudy” Valentino .  Mom is pretty calm but Valentino is frisky and animated.  ”Rudy” runs, jumps, rears and follows Mom around the paddock with such energy that he almost loses his blue blanket..

What a Trio

Watching the Mom, we were amazed by her size for she is a big hefty mare nearly 17 hands high and understandably so very protective of her colt.   Watching John Hobson, owner of Silver Screen Farms, interact with these two incredible specimens of horse flesh is like a front row seat at the Russian ballet. Such a great opportunity for us and now you know why we were impressed.  For sure, we will return to visit our famous neighbours and record Valentino’s growth.
