Loughbreeze Photographic Expression

Sunrise by Terry

Last Friday we began our Photo Expression session led by Terry Self at 6:30 AM. Testing our senses to make sure everyone was fully awake and acclimatized to the world before the sunrise, we focused on Lake Ontario’s wave patterns. As we selected vantage points and set up our tripods we watched the golden red sky adjusting to the rising sun pushing to break the horizon.

Floating Ice by Terry

Early mornings are a very special time and even more so at Loughbreeze where the expanse of Lake Ontario and Presqu’ile Provincial Park dominate. Naturally there are horizon lights from the North Shore as well as broadcast towers beacons, but this morning the air is crisp. A tiny sliver of moon is moving just ahead of the rising sun and the heavens are sprinkled with beautiful stars. In this cold but incredible lake setting we set up to take our pictures. Once the sun rises we head in for coffee and raisin toast.

Learning how to edit in camera.

Now we download our pictures into our Apple Computer and explain, endure our critique. Today’s workshop with the good, the bad, and I wish I could have done better is rewarding history. We’ll be back next month after we digest today’s lessons and re-read our manuals. Later this month we will be posting photographs on our web site for your perusal and I hope pleasure and we would be delighted to post some of your credited shots along with those from Loughbreeze. All best wishes from Loughbreeze B&B, secluded privacy in the middle of everything.

Now it looks like this!

Beautiful Lunch at “Tomasso’s

In Tomassos, you have a great view of the Trent!

When your friends call and offer to take you to lunch at Tomasso’s in Trenton, Ontario.(www.tomassos.ca) jump at the chance. Being the area “newbies” we were only slightly familar with Tomasso’s & Jim’s Pizzeria but it turns out not knowing about this incredible restaurant complex was our loss. Consider these facts: begun in the 1950′s, known world wide largely as a result of great food plus deliveries by Canadian Forces Base, Trenton to CFB bases around the globe. From Alert to Haiti, across Europe and into Africa including Croatia, Kosova and Bosnia and throughout Canada, Jim’s Pizzeria at Tomasso’s have sent their famous pizza’s, salads, back ribs and pasta to appreciative customers. Well, as I have long believed a great meal must be followed by awesome desserts and Tomasso’s will not let you down. Consider these delectable mouth tingling morsels: Chocolate Confusion, Chocolate Eruption and New York Skyscraper Mixed Berry Cheesecake. By the way, reservations are strongly recommended. Get lucky and arrange a lunch invitation from our friends and they could introduce you to Jim. All best wishes from Loughbreeze B&B

In an unbelievable but magnificent National Football League semi final game today on the last 2 plays of the game the Baltimore Ravens more than game fully were unable to score to win on a dropped pass and then a missed field goal. Lament and congratulations. Now on to the Super Bowl in2 weeks.

Loughbreeze & The Wayback Times Antique Guide

It is not every New Year that we here at Loughbreeze B&B are inspired to return to our passion of searching for unique antique pieces we love.  Mind you, The Wayback Times Antique and Collectables Guide is a permanent fixture in our home and we always peruse it and frequently travel to visit their advertisers.   Maybe it was the 2012 January/February issue, #98, with the Warkworth Antiques & Nostalgia Show and Sale which occurs with the Warkworth Maple Syrup Festival on Saturday and Sunday, March 10 & 11, 2012.    Not to cut it short, but these simultaneous events in Warkworth offer two full days of near perfect organization and information from a committed small town community.  I can personally promise you a great experience.  Now back to The Wayback Times which is much more than the compelling Warkworth ads and information.  Antique hunters far and wide use The Wayback Times as their Bible as they seek out auctions, antique sales & shows plus antique dealers.  The January/February issue is chock a block with articles, information and experts answering questions and offering advice. www.waybacktimes.com

Buffleheads are back at Loughbreeze B&B

Loughbreeze's Friendly Buffleheads Return!

Rarely a day passes that we are not entranced by the Buffleheads swimming and diving all along our shore line.  They swim and dive then scoot along the surface to playfully bump into each other.   It sure looks like delightful fun.  Mind you they are frequently swimming right along with the swans, geese, sea gulls and ducks that inhabit Loughbreeze Bay.   Just this morning as the waves were rolling in those adorable indomitable little guys ride each crest like they were at Canada’s Wonderland or a Six Flags Amusement Park.   While Disney has Disney Land and Disney World, plus a number of international locations like Paris and Japan, you will find nature’s beauty here at Loughbreeze B&B.   Earlier this week we spent a couple of hours out in our first snow of the year and it was wonderful to observe the myriad of fresh animal tracks.   We loved seeing the deer, fox and racoon tracks plus those squiggly mouse paths around the fields.    Be sure you read our blog about the incredible Woodpecker whose picture we took yesterday as he chirped and posed for us.    Loughbreeze B&B is located on the North Shore of beautiful Lake Ontario in Northumberland County.  We are secluded privacy in the middle of everything.  Looking forward to seeing you soon. Loughbreeze Snow & Wildlife Tracks

Following the Tracks in the Fresh Snow!

Everyday, sun, snow or winter’s cold we are out scouting our area for interesting fossil stones, driftwood over night developments and signs of local wild life.  Frequently inclement weather provides the best opportunities for observing signs of our numerous fin, feather and four legged neighbours.  There are always interesting tracks in the sand.  We have an abundance of birds and butterflies in spring/summer but in the snow we have a corncopia of great tracks.   Field mice love our meadows and provide lunch and dinner for the fox population.  For sure, we have lots of deer, beaver, racoons, ground hogs, and rabbits.  Each of these friends leaves foot prints everywhere they travel and we love to observe  and follow the paths they take.

Swans Visiting on a Calm Winter Day.

Swans, ducks, geese, woodpeckers along with the occasional Snowy Owl and a host of indigenous waterfowl also grace our area swooping and singing as they partake in the beauty of Loughbreeze Bay.  Loughbreeze B&B is a Paradise located on the North Shore of Lake Ontario in beautiful Northumberland County and we are looking forward to seeing you.  Follow us on facebook.com/loughbreezebandb

Perfect December & January Photos Time

We heard him call and got this photo of our Pileated Woodpecker!

To our absolute delight December and January have provided incredible photography times.  Fair weather, excellent light and shadows along our waterfront and through our forest trails where we have identified a number of great spots that provide interesting photographic opportunities nearly all the time, even on overcast days.  Just yesterday, we brought in 88 shots for assessment and editing.   And today we followed a large Redheaded Woodpecker from his perch in a tree to a hulking oversized rotting tree where we took a number of back-lit shots showing his bright red comb.

Waiting for the Coals so we can Roast the Marshmallows!

Over the holidays, we were thrilled to include several of our guest in our photographic bank including a couple of very interesting Hot Dog, Hot Chocolate and Marshmallow roasting at our shore line pit.  When we finally got some snow that stuck around for a couple of days we included some wintery secenes including the snow plow that cleared our road of the dusting we received.

Snow finally arrived at Loughbreeze Bay.

I am asking Terry Self one of our Professional Photographer friends who often joins us in the field to share some of his favorite shots too for your enjoyment.  Loughbreeze B&B is secluded privacy in the middle of everything offering great photographic opportunities.  Follow us on facebook.com/loughbreezebandb and watch our web site   www.loughbreeze.com for engaging community details & guests news.
